Elements of Time and Space in Japanese Garden Design
There are many different elements that can be found in Japanese gardens which you can and should implement in your own Japanese garden design. Although there are standards for Japanese garden design that one should follow in order to truly claim that their garden is a Japanese garden design, there is a lot of room to add your own style to it. For those who are unfamiliar with Japanese garden design, Japanese garden design can represent a simple openness. In the West, most people feel that their gardens must fill up all of the space that is available. This is not something that is done with Japanese garden design. This is because if something is found to be original, the piece might not portray the right image. Nevertheless, in Japanese garden design there has to be balance.
Wabi and Sabi are two elements of Japanese gardening design that deal simultaneously with both the factor of time and of space. In other types of garden design the garden design is abandoned during some changes with the seasons. However, this is not true with Japanese garden design. In Japanese garden design time is a continuous flow and the garden evolves with the roll of it. In winter there is a different Japanese garden design that is used for the same garden that had another format in the spring and summer.
The time element in Japanese garden design is just about the only element that people seem to be able to master easily. It is easy to understand that brightly colored flowers and freshness goes along with the spring and deep reds and autumn colors are more appropriate to be used in Japanese garden design for the fall. There are many who find this part of Japanese garden design to be the most fun.
